Supporting Active Lives in Warton: Walking Rugby Fundraiser 🏉

The Fylde Rugby Community Foundation has launched a fundraiser through Spacehive to support and grow its Walking Rugby Programme in Warton, Lancashire—a vital initiative helping adults aged 45+ stay active, connected, and supported.

Already running successfully, the programme delivers free weekly walking rugby sessionstailored to suit all abilities, alongside social activities that bring people together. In partnership with Streetwise, participants also enjoy weekly coffee and chat sessions, plus a cooked brunch every six weeks, creating a strong sense of community and belonging.

The fundraiser aims to build on this impact by reaching even more people—particularly women and those aged 65+—while enhancing the overall experience through taster sessions, community events, and outreach activity. It will also support the inspiring ‘Forward Pass’ initiative, which redistributes sports kit to families and young people in need, helping remove barriers to participation.

With research highlighting that older adults are among the least active groups, initiatives like walking rugby play a crucial role in improving physical health, mental wellbeing, and reducing social isolation. Participants not only develop fitness and confidence but also gain routine, purpose, and meaningful social connections.

By backing this fundraiser, the community can help ensure the Warton programme continues to thrive—providing a welcoming, inclusive space where people can stay active, make friends, and feel part of something bigger.
